The Tascosa Lady Rebels have been smashing school milestones this season on the pitch. Tascosa has secured its best overall record in over 10 years at 7-9-4, best district record in over 10 years at 4-2-2, and highest district points total in over 10 years at 14. They beat Caprock and Palo Duro this season after not beating either of them in over 10 years.

While it wasn’t the first time in over 10 years, the Lady Rebels did get to do something on Friday that they don’t normally get to do: Celebrate a college signing.

Elizabeth Watson, the starting left back for Tascosa, signed to play soccer at the next level for Sterling College on Friday afternoon at Tascosa High School. She’ll continue to play defense at the next level.

It was a big honor for the senior and one she wasn’t even certain she’d accept initially.

“I wasn’t sure if I was going to play college ball until I went for my official visit,” she said. “I loved the community Sterling has and how welcoming the team was. I can’t wait to further my soccer career at Sterling and have the chance to play with my sister one last time!”

Watson’s older sister Shaylee Gibbs plays goalkeeper for Sterling. She’ll be a senior this coming season.

Liz Watson has played a huge part in the Lady Rebels’ turnaround this season. A two-year starter and captain, she’s part of a defense that’s recorded a program-record 10 clean sheets this season. Tascosa prepares for the postseason now and head coach Hutton Sharp believes that Watson will play a big role in the Lady Rebs’ success in the playoffs as well.

“We are all very proud of Liz. It is a tremendous accomplishment to sign and play soccer at the collegiate level. Tascosa soccer has been on the up over the past couple years, and it’s been fun to watch Liz be part of our growth…Next fall we’re going to be rooting for Sterling’s women’s team!”
