Union Berlin’s impressive run in all competitions continued Thursday as Urs Fischer’s squad advanced into the UEFA Europa League Round of 16.

Jordan Pefok helped close out a 3-1 second leg victory over Eredivisie visitors Ajax by playing 25 minutes off the bench. The U.S. men’s national team forward won two of his four duels, made three recoveries, and completed one pass. Robin Knoche and Josip Juranovic scored in the first half before Danilho Doekhi added an insurance goal five minutes into the second half. Union Berlin now remains in two cup competitions this season (DFB Pokal) and is tied for the Bundesliga lead with 43 points. The German club has been paired against Belgian side Union St. Gilloise for the Round of 16, which kicks off in March.

In England, Auston Trusty logged his latest 90 minutes for Birmingham City, but the Blues lost to Norwich City. Birmingham City now sits seven points clear of the relegation zone.

Europa League

Jordan Pefok came off the bench and played 25 minutes in Union Berlin’s 3-1 second leg win over Ajax on Thursday. Union Berlin advanced 3-1 on aggregate.

Richie Ledezma dressed but did not play in PSV’s 2-0 second leg win over Sevilla on Thursday. Sevilla advanced 3-2 on aggregate.

Championship

Auston Trusty started and played 90 minutes in Birmingham City’s 3-1 loss to Norwich City on Tuesday.

Josh Sargent did not dress (Injury) for Norwich City.

Lynden Gooch is OUT (Injury) for Sunderland.
